I will never forget how this all started. 10 years ago, I watched my son standing on the top of the stairs in our humble townhouse at the time, staring down at me with a curious grin. It was around the Christmas holiday season where wearing pajamas all day long was encouraged. With one hand fixed on a candy cane and the other gripping his trusty yellow blankie, my son was content. He was more than content, he was carefree and not anxious about anything. He smiled at me in his blue Superman PJs in a confident manner that assured me that he could do anything! He was fearless.
I remember looking at him and saying, "He is such a character. Like a cartoon," and I quickly pulled out my cell phone to snap his picture. For whatever reason, I did not want to forget this moment in time. I immediately began to create a world in my head of a boy who overcomes whatever he puts his mind to, no matter how big, or how small. That night, when everyone was asleep, I started to write a story. A bedtime story. I wrote about this boy, just as I had envisioned him, whose likeness embodied my son Obinna. Some days later I asked a high-school friend of mine, to draw out this character so that I could see him on paper, and he did me that favor. That is when the Adventures of Super Obi was born! (I will link my blog post with that sketch on the bottom for those of you who have not seen it).
Fast-forward through 2 more kids, an evolving career, etc., etc., excuses, excuses, this story stayed filed on my computer for ten years until I revived it almost 1 year ago. To say this project has been a labor of love is an understatement, but I am so grateful to be able to start taking pre-orders for my book on October 5th! Click on the image below to be directed to the Kickstarter pre-launch page where you can sign-up to be notified of the launch. Again, thanks to you all for your encouragement and for following with me on this journey.
Now, after that drawn-out introduction (lol), I present to you... "The Adventures of Super Obi: Nothing to Fear (book 1)".
